Japandi-Inspired Kitchen Project in Pacific Palisades
Calm and inviting, this kitchen showcases Japandi-inspired cabinetry in deep navy. Sand-toned walls and a fluted wood island soften the modern lines, creating a balanced space with warmth and ease.

Instead of the usual neutrals, the Japandi-style cabinets are finished in a deep blue that brings a sense of calm. The upper units feature subtly fluted glass fronts for added texture and lightness.
When the owners of this mid-century Pacific Palisades home approached us, their requests were simple but meaningful: preserve the original flooring, keep the existing appliances, and completely rethink the kitchen. They wanted a space that felt modern and functional, yet warm and inviting.
We designed an interior that blends Scandinavian restraint with American contemporary luxury, touched by the clean linearity of Japandi. The kitchen cabinets, crafted in painted wood veneer, bring depth and texture, while glass fronts set in wooden frames introduce a subtle vintage note that balances the modern scheme.

With its subtly iridescent countertop, the kitchen island introduces a play of color and light to the space, echoing the shine of other glossy surfaces, such as the built-in stainless steel appliances.

The blue cabinetry and the reflective countertop pattern create a striking contrast with the golden tones of the light oak fronts and brass faucet.

The marble-like countertop sets off the matte cabinet fronts, creating a balanced interplay of textures within the Japandi-inspired design.
The corrugated, rounded island adds a sculptural focal point, tying the entire space together. For work surfaces and backsplash, we chose Dekton. It's a durable countertop material choice, that is perfectly suited to the aesthetic.
Functionality was equally important: a hidden pantry with sliding doors, built-in spice racks, clever organizers, and a custom drawer with a sink cutout all make daily life more seamless.
The result is a kitchen where past and present meet with quiet harmony—a space that feels calm, confident, and effortlessly livable.

Natural light floods the space, catching the blue-veined countertop and accentuating the depth of the cabinetry. The mix of rich tones and bright surfaces lends the kitchen an open, refreshed feel.

The interplay of color, texture, and material results in a kitchen that feels both modern and practical — a space where bold design choices still carry a sense of calm balance.
